    Done and Done

Realization, fruition, excitement, a little apprehension.  The many months of planning and preparation, even frustration, have finally paid off.  Yes, we can all learn to use frustration in positive ways.

I have been dreaming of a forum - an outlet for all the teachable moments pent up inside.  A place where people can go to learn, to share, to be encouraged.  Where discussions are held on home-topics and family matters.  Not just for married folks and not just for families with children.  I’ve been dreaming of site where advice, tips, explanations, and experiments are interwoven with satisfaction, accomplishment, and a renewed spirit.

In my imagination, I see recipes, recycling, and renovation.  There might be discussions on childhood fears or natural remedies for poison ivy rash.  How do you unclog your drains without calling the plumber?  What’s your favorite way to grill chicken?  When is the best time to go crappie fishin’, and why would you dig for childhood treasure in your backyard?  Do you know how to render hog fat into lard (and I imagine you’re thinking, “Why would you?”)?  By the way, that last adventure is one our family just experienced, so get ready for a dandy report!

My husband and I have been empty nesters for a few years now, and I find myself missing those previously mentioned ‘teachable moments’.  After years of teaching children’s bible classes, women’s classes, writing secular and bible-based curriculum, and educating our sons at home, it is now time to renew that flair, or gift, or spark, or whatever you want to call it.

So, here it is.  A website-slash-blog for all those purposes, for all those reasons.  It is my plan over the next few months to introduce journal pages like - The Nourishing Home, The Spiritual Home, and Kids at Home.  There will be opportunities for you to leave comments, ask questions, or offer ideas for additional blog posts.

I am so excited!  I feel all pent up, but in a good, gonna-get-something-accomplished kind of way.  I hope that you will check back often, maybe even every day (nothing like putting the pressure on yourself…).

Since it’s almost breakfast time at our house, I want to share a quick and delicious egg dish:

You’ll need feta cheese, eggs, chopped green onions, chopped fresh jalapeno peppers, and olive oil.  Make all the substitutions you’d like.  Fork some feta cheese chunks into a mixing bowl and mash until crumbled.  Stir in enough eggs for one person (we use two or three).  Add seasonings to taste (try a pinch of thyme.  Careful with the salt, most feta is pretty salty).  Heat a small skillet, add a tablespoon or two of olive oil, and swirl the skillet to coat the bottom well.  Add the chopped onions and peppers, saute’ing until they just begin to soften (we like our vegetables to have some crunch).  Pour the egg, cheese mixture over the veggies and scramble until done.  Serve with fresh fruit, toast or biscuits, and optional salsa over the eggs.

Bye for now and happy day to you!
